English Learners Professional Development Workshops 2015-16

On October 20, 2015 and May 17, 2016 there will be an opportunity for districts to send a team of special and general educators to Oakland Schools to create, innovate, and update their district protocols and procedures when an English Learner is suspected of having a disability.

The work session (below) will highlight the procedures used in Walled Lake and Troy as models, however district teams will use the time together to create or update their own procedures. The day is a follow-up to our May 8 EL Panel day and will follow Dr. Collier’s co-sponsored Oct. 9 session on “Separating Difference from Disability.”

Special Ed Directors should talk with their district ESL coordinators to put together a team that has the knowledge, expertise, and leverage to implement district protocols and procedures that will be developed as a result of this day.
