When considering placement options for students, please follow the guidance provided in the chart below which is included in the consideration for placement memo as well as the information provided in the Student Problem Solving and Placement Process Document (see information below).

Regarding transfer students, resident districts are required to offer FAPE immediately upon student enrollment, however, unless it is a direct transfer for a ‘like’ program, please do not offer placement into a center program for all without first submitting the paperwork via Secure Dropbox to DSRrequests@oakland.k12.mi.us and having conversations with the program operators.

All information regarding placement may be found on the SEAOC Moodle with supporting documents available on the Oakland Schools website. Please contact 248.209.2179 if you have any questions.

Student Problem Solving and Placement Process Document

Pages 2-3 Sections IV and V outlines the process specifically related to placement considerations:

Please be reminded that if you are a resident district considering placement into a Center Program, decisions regarding placement are made at the IEP team meeting; please allow program operators the opportunity to conduct record reviews and observations/visitations in an effort to be able to fully and meaningfully participate in the IEP meeting discussion. Please do not schedule IEP meeting prior to the Center Program operators obtaining student information from Central Coordination.
