Project SEARCH
Do you have a student or students who are ready to exit school services for employment and adult life? It’s time to determine if Project SEARCH is the right next step. The two Oakland County sites are offering information sessions for students, families, and those who support them so they can learn more and decide if they are ready to move forward as a Project SEARCH intern for the 2016-2017 school years.
The Information Sessions will offer an overview of the Project SEARCH model & program, the opportunity to hear from current and former interns, and learn about the application process and deadlines. Each site will offer two sessions, participants should plan on attending both meetings to get the information, get your questions answered, and make an informed choice.

The goal for each student participant is competitive employment. The program provides real-life work experience combined with training in employability and independent living skills to help youths with significant disabilities make successful transitions from school to productive adult life.
The Project SEARCH model involves an extensive period of training and career exploration, innovative adaptations, long-term job coaching, and continuous feedback from teachers, job coaches, and employers. As a result, at the completion of the training program, students with significant intellectual disabilities are employed in nontraditional, complex and rewarding jobs. The presence of a Project SEARCH School Transition Program can bring about long-term changes in business culture that have far-reaching positive effects on attitudes about hiring people with disabilities and the range of jobs in which they can be successful.
