Explicit Instruction Professional Learning Opportunities 2016-2017

Training of Trainers: July 11-15, 2016

Join MISD, LESA, Oakland Schools, Dearborn, Plymouth, Brighton, Holland, and West Ottawa School Districts for an intensive Training of Trainer session with Dr. Anita Archer this summer!

Summer Series: August 9-11, 2016

Systematic, explicit instruction is a highly effective, research-based strategy for students with IEPs. This course is centered on the book, Explicit Instruction (Archer & Hughes, 2011) and provides instructors with specific tools and techniques that can be used in the classroom. We will learn about active participation, lesson design, critical delivery skills, explicit vocabulary instruction, giving feedback, and praise. Dr. Anita Archer will join us in-person in the spring!

Lab: October 28 & November 17, 2016; January 26 & March 24, 2017

The explicit instruction lab gives practitioners the opportunity to deepen their skills and application of the explicit instruction strategies and techniques learned in the series. The purpose of the learning lab is to provide an opportunity for colleagues to come together to connect, share, reflect, and observe in a safe and supportive environment.

Symposium: November 30, 2016

Learn about explicit instruction in a teacher-to-teacher format! Attend break-out sessions, connect with colleagues, share your work, and learn from the experiences, successes, and challenges of others! The symposium is for educators who are interested in learning more about explicit instruction as well as educators who are deep into implementation.

A Day with Anita Archer: March 20, 2017

Bring your team! Join us for a one-day session with Dr. Anita Archer. This session provides an opportunity to learn key principles of explicit instruction including: active participation, explicit vocabulary instruction, critical delivery skills, as well as giving feedback and praise.
