Multidisciplinary Professional Learning Spotlight on Practice Social Thinking Across the Home and School Day: The ILAUGH Model 3/1/17

Dr. Michelle Garcia Winner

Location: Oakland Schools

District Team Registration by Invitation Only.

“A student, no matter how smart, who struggles with developing peer relationships, has poor organizational skills, and/or shows weak classroom performance based on weak comprehension or narrative language, is likely to experience significant challenges in meeting the expectations of school, college, a job and adult professional and personal relationships.” -Michelle Garcia Winner and Pamela Crooke

Each district is invited to send a multidisciplinary team to learn about teaching social thinking and evaluate the match of this approach with the needs in their district, as there may be future opportunities to advance this work through Oakland Schools. The background on social thinking and the registration process will be explained on October 14, 2016 at the Directors meeting. We are bringing Michelle Garcia Winner here not as a one day workshop, but as the start of a possible continuous, sustained learning opportunity around implementation of social thinking in schools.

This work is an extension of Oakland Schools support of executive functioning strategies learned from professional learning with Sarah Ward from Cognitive Connections.
